Expert consensus on lateral femoral cutaneous nerve block therapy in China(2019)

2019
The lateral femoral cutaneous nerve originates from the anterior branch of the second and third lumbar spinal nerves and innervates the skin sensation of the lateral thigh, and is prone to anatomic variation. Compared with the traditional blind method, nerve block methods assisted by electrical nerve stimulator and guided by ultrasound have higher success rate. There are two approaches to block the femoral cutaneous nerve. The first approach is medial to the anterior superior iliac spine, the second one is below the anterior superior iliac spine which is now recommended. The nerve can be found between the sartorius and tensor fascia latae, where the lateral femoral cutaneous nerve is relatively fixed. Key words: Nerve block; Lateral femoral cutaneous nerve
