Hypospadia in a zebu calf in Mexico

2021
During the general management of cattle on a ranch in southern Mexico, the incidental finding of a male calf with a malformation of the genitals was made. The andrological examination revealed a case of hypospadias based on the structures evaluated and was differentiated from a hermaphrodite. Due to the type of hypospadia (perianal hypospadia), no intervention was performed, other than applying vaseline to the skin where the urine made contact. The prognosis of the case was reserved, since this type of pathology is generally associated with malformations in vital organs (i.e., in the heart and kidneys). This is the first case of hypospadias in a Zebu calf that has been reported in Mexico.
