Acute carpal tunnel syndrome due to a thrombosed persistent median artery: Unusual cause in athletes

2015
Abstract An acute trauma of the wrist was the cause of acute carpal tunnel syndrome due to median artery thrombosis. Thrombosis of the persistent median artery due to sport trauma is a rare entity. A case of a 23-year-old man, professional water polo player, who presented an acute carpal tunnel syndrome after direct contusion of the anterior face of the wrist during training is reported. Diagnosis was based in clinical examination/suspicion and Doppler Ultrasound confirmation. Surgical release and exploration of the carpal tunnel in these cases is mandatory.
