A test suite for validation of volume visualization procedures

Abstract While the evaluation of image quality has been identified as a major research topic in volume visualization, only few investigations on this subject are available to date. In this paper, a collection of simulated tomographic data sets of mathematically described test scenes is presented. These data, along with the descriptions of the scenes, are publicly available over the Internet and thus provide a test suite for basic validation of a broad range of algorithms and parameter settings for volume visualization.
