Diferencias de la primera vértebra cervical en una muestra de población colombiana según el sexo

2019
Objectives: To determine the sex in bone cadavers through the quantitative study of the first cervical vertebra, identifying its characteristics through an experimental analysis in order to establish the morphological differences of the vertebrae in men and women. Materials and methods: National and International literature was reviewed and then 20 bone cadavers were evaluated by analyzing the first cervical vertebra (C1, Atlas) of the anatomical amphitheater of two universities in Bogota DC-Colombia previously dissected and without knowledge of sex and age of origin of the corpses. The measurements were then taken in millimeters with a digital calibrator, photographic record was taken and finally the data was tabulated. Results: Taking into account eight established parameters, it was determined that eleven C-1 vertebrae corresponded to men, eight to women and one was found indeterminate. Discussion: The results previously obtained by Medina et. al., in 2011, support this study, because the interval of the mean for the parameter Maximum Width of the Transverse Process of vertebra C1 was confirmed in both studies. It is emphasized that in the present study sex was unknown unlike other studies where there was previous knowledge of the sex.
