Value of Electrocardiographic Abnormalities in Diagnosis of Atrial Septal Defect in Adults

2006
Objective:To evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of the "classic" ECG abnormalities for the detection of ASD in adults. Methods:The patients with ASD for surgery or intervention therapy received 12-lead ECG and echocardiogram examination. Results:Both solitary and combined ECG findings are not sensitive markers of ASD.QRS axis did not predict chamber enlargement.Higher right ventricular systolic pressure was associated with right-axis deviation. Conclusions:The previously described ECG criteria are not sensitive markers for ASD in adults.
