Management of Ruptured True Profunda Femoris Artery Aneurysms

2002
Aneurysms of the femoral artery are rare in comparison to aneurysms of the abdominal aorta. Aneurysms of the profunda femoris artery are exceptionally rare, accounting for less than 0.5% of peripheral arterial aneurysms. These aneurysms are frequently associated with aneurysmal disease elsewhere. The main complications from such aneurysms are rupture or distal embolisation. In this report we describe the treatment of two true ruptured aneurysms of the profunda femoris artery with two different approaches, surgical exclusion in the first case and minimally invasive arterial embolisation in the second case.
