Phytoremediation potential of invasive species growing in mining dumpsite

2021
Abstract The contaminants from the mining-related activities are a serious concern to both developed and developing countries. Increased mining activities for mineral exploitation result in a large amount of mining waste generation which pollutes the soil, water, and air. Removal of the pollutant from the contaminated environment using green plants is proving to be a viable option in the present days. Among the native species, invasive species are also recently utilized to remediate the contaminants due to their high adaptive and hyperaccumulation capability. In this chapter, we have thoroughly discussed the invasive species ecology, their role in phytoremediation, and possible sustainable management methods during the cultivation.
