Introduction Intestinal ischemia/reperfusion injury (IRI) is characterized by tissue destruction in the gut and accompanying cellular damage in the liver. The detrimental effects of intestinal IRI can be diminished by the administration of interleukin-2 (IL-2). This study focused on the question whether the beneficial effect of IL-2 is mediated through activation of NFкB/Rel and subsequently increased expression of NOS-2.
