Experimental evaluation towards approximate DoA estimation using 2 by 2 MIMO sensor with time correlation of channel matrix

2017
The multiple input multiple output (MIMO) sensor utilized for human detection by channel state information in a MIMO propagation channel has been proposed. In this paper, we evaluate the estimation of the detection of the person and the approximate direction of arrival (DoA) of the person using a correlation function with only 2 by 2 MEMO configuration. We focus on the DoA estimation of the human in an indoor scenario by applying MEMO sensor with the time correlation for wide and narrow element spacings in the horizontal place at the transmit and receive array antennas. The measurement results show that the narrow element spacing was effective for the broadside direction estimation, whereas the wider element spacing was effective for the end-fire direction estimation considering the approximate DoA estimation using the time correlation even if high-resolution techniques, such as the MUSIC algorithm, is not used.
