The Diagnostic Value of X-ray Film and Computed Tomography for Fracture of Nasal Bones

2010
Objective:To investigate the diagnostic value of X-ray film and computed tomography(CT) for fracture of nasal bones.Methods:100 patients with trauma of nasal bones were included into the study. All patients received X-ray film investigation and 73 patients had CT scan. The original images of 25 patients who ceceived CT scan were reconstructed with three dimensional technique.the all images of 100 patients were analyzed by two radiologist respactively. Results:In 100 patients,51 patients were diagnosed as fracture of nasal bones and the other 18 patients were doubtful for fracture of nasal bones by X-ray film. The CT images of 65 patients showed fracture of nasal bones including one-side fracture(16),double-side fracture(15),comminuted fracture(12),split of bony suture(2),fracture combined split of bony suture(8) and compound fracture(24).The images of 2 patients showed vacuole sign.Conclusion:X-ray film and CT plays a valuable role in the diagnosis of fracture of nasal bones and the accuracy rate of CT is higher than X-ray film, but X-ray film was more economical. For suspecting fracture of nasal bones,X-ray film is initiatory investigation method and CT is valuable supplementary means.
