Surgical Treatment of Esophageal Adenocarcinoma
2021
Surgery is the primary curative modality for adenocarcinoma of the esophagus and EGJ cancers. However, long-term outcomes are not satisfactory with resection alone, even if microscopically complete (R0). This poor long-term outcome has prompted an evaluation of neoadjuvant (preoperative), perioperative, and adjuvant (postoperative) combined modality therapies. Significant progress has been made in the past two decades in the multimodality treatment of locally advanced nonmetastatic esophageal cancer. Nevertheless, there is still a lack of evidence.
