Coronal Shear Fractures of the Distal Humerus

2020
Coronal shear fractures of the distal humerus usually involve the capitellum with frequent extension into the trochlea. Good results have been achieved with internal fixation for most simple fractures. However, a subset of these fractures can be highly comminuted with multiple small separate fragments and poor subchondral bone stock and impaction. Preoperative CT scanning is essential to help formulate a treatment strategy and a variety of surgical techniques are needed to address the full spectrum of these fractures. The aim of this chapter is to describe the surgical techniques available to treat these fractures using a systematic approach.
