Synthesis of compounds - a pathway for investigation and characterization

2013
This section deals with the characterization and ultimately elucidation of structures of the compounds synthesized. This is made easier with the rapid revolution of the spectroscopic techniques. Since a single analytical tool is not sufficient to put an inference about the skeletal structure of the compound, thus a regiment of tests will allow us to know about the structure of the compound. A thorough investigation of the synthesized compounds has been carried out whose results and spectral analysis reports are furnished in this section. Purity has been established by observing no change in the melting range while the compound was subjected to purification by recrystalization. For carrying out the synthesis of first compound mainly in a 500 ml three neck flat bottomed flask, 26 ml of p-Ethoxy benzene and 100 ml of chloroform was taken. Melting point range complies with the literature and the yield was 68%. For carrying out the synthesis of first compound mainly this was prepared from p-Ethoxy benzene sulphonyl chloride. L-(+)-Glutamic acid (11.4g, 0.1 moles) was taken in a conical flask (500ml) place in a water bath (temperature maintained at 70 o C) and fitted with a magnetic stirrer. Sodium hydroxide (2N) was added slowly till all the Glutamic acid dissolved and total mass distinctly alkaline to phenolphthalein. White fluffy mass was observed. Melting point range and the yield was 220 o C and 79.67% respectively. The designing of the compounds synthesized for this research work was based on biochemical rationale, now the most active molecule of the series will be predicted and its QSAR study is done. Based on regression analysis, substituents in different compounds are chosen.
