Elbow and Forearm Injuries

2021
Elbow and forearm injuries are very common in athletes, especially those that practice overhead sports. Acute injuries typically occur in contact sports, whereas overuse injuries to the elbow and forearm are usually the result of repetitive stress at the elbow, especially in overhead athletes. Acute injuries include fractures, dislocations, bursitis, ligament tears, and tendon ruptures, while overuse injuries include tendinopathies, nerve entrapment, and overload syndromes. Evaluation and treatment for these injuries should be individualized considering injury etiology, mechanism, and sport mechanics.
