Investigation on the knowledge of dengue fever prevention and control in medical staff in Zhoushan city

Objective To understand the current situation of dengue fever prevention and control knowledge in medical staff in Zhoushan city and provide the basis for carrying out targeted training. Methods In May 2018, the medical staff from 7 county and district hospitals and 12 community health service centers in Zhoushan city were selected. The knowledge of dengue fever prevention and control was cross-sectional investigated by anonymous self-administered questionnaire. Logistic regression analysis was used to find the factors that influenced the awareness scores. Results In this survey, a total of 216 questionnaires were obtained, of which 65.28% had the awareness score ≥6. The awareness rate of medical staff on dengue fever prevention and control was not high, and the awareness rate of several questions, such as fever patients were asked about the travel history (48.15%) , legal reporting time of dengue fever (33.64%) , incubation period of dengue fever (39.81%) and blood routine test results of dengue fever patients (33.33%) , was relatively low. Factors influencing the awareness rate of dengue fever prevention and treatment among medical staff in Zhoushan city were as follows: hospitals above the county level[OR (95%CI) =1.63 (1.42-1.82) ], doctors[OR (95%CI) =0.72 (0.68-0.92) ], nurses[OR (95%CI) =0.64 (0.54-0.82) ] and training[OR (95%CI) =1.27 (1.12-1.43) ]. Conclusions Medical staff in Zhoushan city have low knowledge level of dengue prevention and control, especially those in primary medical institutions. In the future, the training of dengue related knowledge in these medical staff should be strengthened. Key words: Dengue; Medical staff; Prevention knowledge; Awareness rate
