Efficiency of IMSI over ICSI in good and poor responders: does the number of oocytes matter?

2013
Group 1, this difference did not achieve statistical significance (28% vs. 43%, p1⁄40.2). In a regression model incorporating maternal age, baseline FSH, mode of fertilization (IVF vs. ICSI) and day of transfer (day 3 or 5), only embryo transfer on day 3 significantly and independently predicted LB (OR:5.2, 95%CI:1.3-20.4). CONCLUSION: IVF/ICSI split does not to improve FR or LB rates in UI when compared to IVF alone, though ICSI significantly rescued failed fertilization in the split cycles. This suggests that performing either IVF or ICSI may result in better outcomes than performing a split. Generally, IVF/ICSI split has been recommended to prevent failed fertilization, however the results of this pilot study do not support that recommendation. An RCT is needed to confirm these findings.
