Evaluation of Mechanical Properties of Hernia Surgical Mesh Implants

2021
Hernia is a part of serious but often underrated and neglected surgical problems. It manifests itself as pathological and undesirable bulging of the content of coelom through the hole in layer, with reduced resistance. Methods making use of fascia with self-transplantation and usage of synthetic materials like meshes are used at present. Mesh is made of intertwined, monofilament polymeric fibers which fulfill many conditions as high durability, flexibility, and chemical inertness. Additionally, materials should not cause inflammation or allergies. The purpose of the carried out study was the evaluation of effect of meshes’morphological structure and 28-day long exposition in solution which simulates saline and in human body temperature to test its durability. Gathered results showed that saline had no effect on durability of mesh material. Analysis of gathered results suggest that fiber arrangement have effect on durability of material structure to stretching.
