Intravital microscopic examinations have been able to demonstrate that in advanced and severe stages of chronic venous insufficiency (CVI), capillary changes are brought about by venous hypertension [3]. In the centers of white atrophy spots, which are frequently found in CVI, this can result in the formation of avascular zones [1].
