Laboratory investigation of disorders of the pituitary gland

Abstract This chapter provides an overview of the clinical presentation, pathophysiology, and laboratory testing required for diagnosing endocrine disorders of the anterior and posterior pituitary. The major focus of the chapter is to review the work up of hypopituitarism and secretory tumors of the Pituitary gland. Detailed information is provided with regards to the interpretation of the laboratory investigations discussed by the authors. Updates regarding new tests and the most recent guidelines available for investigation of the pituitary disorders have been included in this chapter.
