The status of the TPC/2γ detector at PEP

The TPC/2γ detector and the PEP e+e− storage ring have been upgraded for high‐luminosity running. We describe the performance of the new configuration during a test run in fall 1988. Prospects for progress in τ physics, based on a large data sample to be recorded with the TPC/2γ detector, are reviewed.
