Living donor liver transplantation for patients with hepatocellular carcinoma: what are the optimal criteria?

We read with great interest the current issue by Bhangui P et al.(1) regarding the application of expanded selection criteria for living donor liver transplantation (LDLT) in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The authors incorporated alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) and tumor FDG-18 PET avidity into selection criteria and evaluated a total of 405 patients who underwent LDLT for HCC irrespective of tumor size and number.
