Study on Preparation and Antifouling Application of a Novel Polymer Containing a Indole Derivate

2009
In order to search for an effective and environment friendly antifoulant,a new monomer N-((5-bromo-1H-indol-3-yl)methyl)acrylamide(NBIAM)is synthesized from 5-bromo-1H-indole via Friedel-Crafts reaction, and the yield is 76.7%.The copolymerization of NBIAM is studied and the copper acrylate polymer(SP-1)which has a self-polishing activity is then obtained. The physical properties(e.g.,intrinsic viscosity number, thermal degradation behavior)of SP-1 and SP-2 which is nomal copper acrylate polymer without NBIAM are studied and compared. In situ experiments are conducted to estimate the antifouling activity of SP-1 and its relevant antifouling paint SPC-1.Results indicate that both of them show excellent performance of preventing the attachment of great fouling organisms.
