Environmental Enamel Hypoplasia: A Case Report

2013
Enamel hypoplasia is defined as an incomplete or defective formation of the organic enamel matrix of teeth and is associated with hypocalcification and hypomineralisation. Enamel hypoplasia encompasses all deviations from normal enamel in its various degrees of absence. In the Hereditary type, both deciduous and permanent dentitions usually are involved. In the defect caused by environmental type, either dentition may be involved. There is no good reason to resort to radiography to study hypoplasia in erupted teeth, but in the rare event that it may be of interest or importance to determine its presence before eruption of the teeth, radiography is essential.
