Prediction of Engine Performance and Emissions Characteristics of CI Engine With the Variation of Stroke/Bore Ratio

2017
In this study, the mathematical modelling and computational simulation program have been used to analyze the combustion, performances and emission characteristics of CI engine with the variation of stroke length. The program was run with varying the ratio of stroke/bore (S/B) from 0.5 to 2.0 at a different speed (1500, 2000, 2500, 3000 and 4000 rpm). The prediction of combustion, performance, and emissions had been done with using computational simulation program. The BP and IP were increased gradually with increasing the S/B ratio. There was slight increment in both BMEP and IMEP with increasing S/B ratios. The value of BMEP was increased with speed and reverse trends for IMEP. The BSFC and ISFC were decreased with increasing the S/B ratios. On the other hand, the value of BSFC was increased and decreased the ISFC with increasing the speed. The value of peak cylinder pressure and NO were slightly decreased with enhancing the S/B ratios. Higher NO formation was obtained at lower engine speeds. Average value of BP, IP, BMEP, IMEP and NO were increased by 27.52 %, 27.43%, 0.89%, 0.71% and 0.66% and on the contrary, the value of BSFC, ISFC and Pmax were decreased by 0.48%, 0.33% and 0.16% with increasing the S/B ratios from 0.5 to 2.
