Role of endoplasmic reticulum stress and epithelial-mesenchymal transition in pathogenesis of pulmonary fibrosis

2013
Pulmonary fibrosis is a common interstitial lung disease, and its mechanism is still unclear.Epithelial-mesenchymal transition contributes to the source of fibroblasts and myofibroblasts.Recent studies have shown that endoplasmic reticulum stress, which is induced by surfactant protein C mutant L88Q SFTPC and tunicamycin,is related to epithelial-mesenchymal transition. This review discusses whether endoplasmic reticulum stress contributes to epithelial-mesenchymal transition as a possible mechanism for fibrotic remodeling. Key words: Pulmonary fibrosis; Endoplasmic reticulum stress; Epithelial-mesenchymal transition
