A case of chondroid lipoma of the tongue

2014
Abstract Chondroid lipoma is a rare benign fatty tumor, and few cases of such lesions in the intraoral region have been reported. Here, we report a case of chondroid lipoma located in the tongue of a 73-year-old woman. Microscopic evaluation of the tumor showed that it was composed of mature adipose tissue and eosinophilic cells that showed vacuoles and resembled lipoblasts, which were present in a myxoid and chondroid-like stroma. Immunocytochemistry revealed that the cells in the tumor stained positive for Ki-67. The important histological differentials are liposarcoma, chondrosarcoma and chondrolipoma.
