DYNAMIC RESPONSE OF RABBIT LONG BONE IN BENDING

1983
ABSTRACT Fresh rabbit femora were treated in three point bending mode at six different rates of deformation ranging from .0423 to 254 mm/sec. Various mechanical parameters like ultimate bending load, bending stiffness, and energy absorption capacity were determined. The maximum load and the stiffness increased by 50% and 46% respectively at the highest rate of deformation as compared to the lowest. The ultimate deformation and energy absorbed decreased to 47% and 50% respectively when the rate of deformation was increased from 0.0423 mm/sec to 88.6 mm/sec. At the highest deformation rate, the specimens fractured into multiple fragments, with an increase in the total failure energy.
