Effect of Rosemary (Rosmarinus Officinalis L.) Supplementation on Cardiac Remodeling after Myocardial Infarction in Rats

2015
Aim: To analyze the influence of rosemary (R) consumption on cardiac remodeling after myocardial infarction (MI). Material: Male Wistar rats were allocated into: 1) Sham group fed standard chow (SA0, n=6); 2) sham group fed standard chow + 0.02% of dried R (SA002, n=6); 3) sham group fed standard chow + 0.2% of dried R (SA02, n=6); 4) MI rats fed standard chow (IA0, n = 6); 5) MI rats fed standard chow + 0.02% of R (IA002, n=6); 6) MI rats fed standard chow + 0.2% of R (IA02, n=6). After 3 months, heart tissue was collected and evaluated for collagen and myocite cross seccional area (CSA), lipid hydroperoxide concentration (LH) and enzyme activity of gluthatione peroxidase (GPx), superoxide dismutase (SOD), citrato sintase (CS), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), pyruvate dehydrogenase (PDH), β-Acyl CoA dehydrogenase (β-OH-acil CoA-DH), ATP sinthase, Complex I and II of respiratory chain. Comparisons were made by two-way ANOVA. Values were presented as mean ± standard error. Results: MI rats showed higher CSA a...
