La severidad clínica como determinante de la salud en pacientes pediátricos con infección de adenovirus.

2021
The determinants related to the health environment are those individual, community and social factors that influence directly the health and quality of life of human beings. Addressing these determinants from the health field is important because it improves well-being and reduces medical disagreements, being essential to increase the level of care for the community, especially in the most vulnerable and needy sectors. However, there is much controversy surrounding the detection of the determinants in children and young people. Some experts claim that screening is unethical if it is carried out without previously guaranteeing social needs, which also generates expectations and a lack of commitment. The objective of the study was to know health and medical care as a social domain of well-being in pediatric patients diagnosed with adenovirus infection. The focus of the study is quantitative, descriptive. Based on the data analyzed, it is evidenced that 11% of the cases presented moderate severity and 89% mild clinical severity, clearly showing that there are no severe cases. The most frequent symptoms and signs on admission were fever, respiratory distress, and cough. The majority (93.5%) required oxygen from admission, 54% of the patients required mechanical ventilation, and 89.1% required antibiotics. The conclusions denote adenovirus as a frequent cause of pediatric hospitalization, with a high percentage towards females, associated with infections from other viruses, producing an increase in CRP values. Infection parameters do not allow distinguishing bacterial viral etiology, so it is advisable to rule out adenovirus infection before starting antibiotic treatment.
