Synthesis of MoS2 materials for photocatalysis applications and pollution abatement

2021
Abstract The few-layered structure of the transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) has achieved increasing attention in the past few years due to unique physicochemical properties analogous to graphene. The widely known TMDCs have been expected to be applied in various fields, such as electronics, environmental pollution remediation, photocatalytic hydrogen evolution, photocatalytic CO2 reduction, and sustainable energy-related fields. Among the TMDCs, the few-layered MoS2 is considered an excellent nanomaterial for its adjustable electronic structure, larger specific surface area, and exposed active sites. This chapter expresses insights into the crystal structures and properties of MoS2 followed by preparation methods. Then, the application of this novel MoS2 and MoS2-based nanocomposites for photocatalytic water splitting and CO2 reduction into hydrocarbon fuels and pollution abatement is also involved and discussed in detail.
