Decomposition of cellulose by the fungus curvularia lunata wakker-II: factors affecting the elaboration of cellulolytic enzymes

1962
A study of the effect of nutritional factors on the elaboration of extracellular cellulolytic enzyme by the fungus Curvularia lunata has been carried out. A modified Omeliansky's medium has ben formulated substituting ammonium sulphate by ammonium chloride in the Omeliansky's medium and incorporating sodium carboxy methyl cellulose as cellulose is substrate. Use of indole-acetic acid in the growth medium has been found to increase the in vivo as well as in vitro cellulolytic activity. The fungus when grown in the presence of subthresh hold concentrations of sodium pentachlorophenate elaborate an extracellular cellulolytic enzyme of enhanced activity.
