Indications for Cytogenetic Studies: An Update
1989
DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.5915/21-2-13315 Evaluation of chromosomes has now become a widely accepted diagnostic tool in many areas of clinical medicine. Many physicians appear to equate chromosome analysis with genetic diagnostics without realizing that only a fraction of genetic diseases are associated with chromosome aberrations. Moreover, cytogenetic tests are complicated, time consuming and expensive, and most laboratories have the capacity to handle only a limited number of specimens. This paper provides a list of current indications for requesting cytogenetic studies.
