Anesthesia and Radiotherapy Suite

2017
Radiotherapy is an important treatment modality for several cancers. Brachytherapy involves the placement of radioactive material inside of the body. External Beam Radiation uses a machine to deliver radiation from outside of the body. The anesthesia technique for brachytherapy will depend on several factors including the area of the body, length of case and anesthesia provider availability. It may further be complicated by the need to transport the patient to an MRI or CT scanner. External Beam Radiation in adults does not usually require anesthesia. However, if it is required, usually sedation with propofol is adequate.
