Effet du traitement de masse avec le praziquantel sur la bilharziose urinaire en milieu scolaire chez les enfants ages de 7 a 14 ans dans le district sanitaire de Linguere (Senegal)

Introduction: Urinary schistosomiasis is a major public health problem in the health district of Linguere where it occurs in a meso-endemic mode. The objective of this study was to determine the effect of mass treatment with praziquantel on urinary schistosomiasis in school among children aged 7 to 14 years in the health district Linguere (Senegal). Methodology: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted in schools covered by the health district Linguere. She focused on school children aged between 7 and 14 years. Results: the average age of students was 10.4 ± (2) years. Students had prolonged contact with water (70 %) contact. Of these, 97.3 % practiced swimming, laundry (1.6%) and the transition to watch (1.1%). When mass treatment 82.2 % of students had received praziquantel. Of the 360 urine samples done, the color of urine was hematic (1.1%) on gross examination. Microscopic examination showed hematuria in 22.2%. The positive samples with evidence of viable eggs of Schistosomaheamatobium an overall prevalence of 24.4%. Among students who received praziquantel during mass treatment, 28 % were infected with bilharzia. So those who had not received was 7.8 %. Students under treatment with praziquantel had 4.5 times more risk of urinary schistosomiasis (p < 0.05). Conclusion: It is important in addition to chemoprophylaxis to conduct outreach activities with the participation of all stakeholders especially the people.
