Horizontal forces (HF) act on the machine (16) for rolling-up the metal strip (4). These are measured (22) as the strip is being drawn by drive- and bending rollers (17, 18) from the continuous casting process. As a function of the measurements, a supervisory controller varies the speed of sheet production, such that the measured horizontal force (HF) is held at or near zero.
