Laparoscopic adrenalectomy in elderly patients

2006
Aim: Evaluation of patients ≥65 years of age with adrenal pathology operated laparoscopically and comparing their results with group of younger patients. Material and methods: We studied 299 patients who underwent laparoscopic adrenalectomy via lateral transperitoneal approach. 57 (19%) of them were patients ≥65 years of age. Results: The results as well as type and number of intraoperative and postoperative complications were not significantly different between the group of elderly patients and the group of younger patients. Conclusions: 1. LA via lateral transperitoneal approach is a safe procedure. 2. Qualifying patients for adrenalectomy the age shoudn’t be a contraindication in the case of laparoscopic method.
