Ansichten und Techniken zur Rekonstruktion endodontisch behandelter Zähne: eine Umfrage unter Zahnärzten im Bundesgebiet

2003
There is a great variety of opinions and materials for restoration of endodontically treated teeth (ETT). It is difficult to find adequate evidence to support current treatment concepts. A nationwide survey was conducted to ascertain current opinions and techniques regarding the reconstruction of ETT in Germany. 6029 questionnaires were answered. The return rate was 16,5%. The data were saved in Access 97. Only answers of dentists, who restore more than 30 ETT per year were included in the analysis. The frequency of answers concerning treatment opinions, methods and materials were statistically evaluated using chi-square-analysis. The results reflect the variety of opinions in the scientific literature. The majority of dentists does not report an indication for post insertion for every ETT. Nevertheless, in practice, they insert posts when cast restorations are planned, no matter how much work experience they have. The probability of tooth fracture is expected to be reduced as an effect of post reinforcement. Screws are the most popular type of post. The method of core build up, preformed or cast post, depends on the kind of planned cast restoration, but preformed posts are usually preferred.
