In biomedical research, those who control funds and knowledge define the rules to those whom, despite being capable, lack the technological and financial means to do their own research under high quality standards. The study of vertical AJOS transmission from mothers to offspring, using pregnant American, African and Dominican Republic women and new born babies, has been done in the USA in vioJation of ethical rules. Despite the availability of international documents that defend the dignity and integrity of research subjects, currently there is no short term viability for the de tacto preservation of individual rights in this field.
