Death causes and potential life loss of residents in Cixi City in 2012

Objective To investigate the mortality and the main causes of death in Cixi City.Methods The data of death cases in Cixi City in 2012 were analyzed according to the international classification of diseases (ICD-10) by DeathReg 2005 statistical software.Results The total mortality was 686.76/100 000,and the standardized mortality rate was 328.76/100 000 in 2012 in Cixi City.There were more males than females and more rural area cases than urban cases,both with significant differences (x2=95.25,93.80,P＜0.05).The top 5 causes of death in Cixi were malignant neoplasm,respiratory system diseases,brain vascular diseases,injury and poisoning,and heart diseases.The corresponding mortality were 201.50/100 000,184.22/100 000,99.07/100 000,51.07/100 000,48.19/100 000,respectively.The top 2 causes of life loss were malignant neoplasm and injuries,and the potential years of life lost were 13 967.00 and 8 218.50 person-years,respectively.Conclusions Malignant tumor and injury and poisoning are the main causes of death in Cixi City residents.Therefore,getting rid of the bad way of life and behavior is important to reduce the incidence of malignant tumors and injury and poisoning events.
