Mersin Bölgesinde Homosistein, Vitamin A ve Vitamin E Düzeylerine Ait Referans Aralıklarının Belirlenmesi

2011
Abstract Determination of Reference Intervals of Homocysteine, Vitamin A and Vitamin E Levels in Mersin Region Aim: The reference intervals for each clinical laboratory test should be known for medical decision. In recent studies, it was indicated that the calculation of reference intervals using hospital based data with indirect method is much easier. Therefore, it was aimed to determine the reference intervals for homocysteine, vitamin A and E levels based on gender and age, employing the indirect method in this study conducted in Mersin region. Method: The reference intervals were calculated with the indirect method using the homocysteine, vitamin A and E data of employees (3902 men and 3918 women in the age range of 0-96) worked with High Pressure Liquid Chromatography from the year of 2003 to 2010 in Mersin University Hospital of Faculty of Medicine, Clinical Biochemistry Laboratory. Results: Upon comparison of the data for the reference intervals for the homocysteine, vitamin A and E levels calculated based on age and gender of the subjects in Mersin to those given by the manufacturing company, homocysteine and vitamin A levels were found to be different based on both age and gender whereas vitamin E levels varied only with gender. Conclusion: We suggest that the data obtained in this study differs from the reference intervals given by the manufacturing company and thus, each laboratory should determine its own reference intervals for its own region.
