PRESENT AND FUTURE OF PHARMA EDUCATION AND PHARMACY PROFESSION IN INDIA

2012
The beginning of Pharmaceutical education in India was initiated at the Banaras Hindu University way back in 1932 by Professor M.L.Schrof. It is a well-known fact that, the two Pharma education-governing bodies namely PCI and AICTE generally have a conflicting approach towards the changes that are required by the system. Not being entirely successful at the tasks set to them under respective acts, they need reorientation. There is a growing need for the two to work together towards the development of the Pharmacy education system. The demands of the competitive world need to be reconsidered by them for regulating and maintaining the norms and standards of the education system. The primary purpose of pharmacy education is to develop technical human resources, novel approach and vision with respect to teaching, research and development and training future health care professionals in the field of drugs and pharmaceuticals. This article shows the present and future of pharma education and pharmacy profession in India.
