Platelet Dysfunction after Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery
1991
Cardiopulmonary bypass induces platelet activation and dysfunction, resulting in platelet deposition and depletion. Reduced platelet numbers and abnormal function may contribute to postoperative bleeding. In addition, myocardial deposition of activated platelets may contribute to perioperative ischemic injury and early postoperative bypass graft occlusion. Dipyridamole (DIP) reduces platelet activation and may decrease postoperative bleeding, myocardial platelet depostion and perioperative ischemic injury.
