Coriolis meters in two phase conditions

2003
Coriolis mass flow meters provide accurate measurement of single phase flows. However, gas liquid two phase flow may cause severe operating difficulties as well as measurement errors. A new digital Coriolis transmitter developed by Oxford University can operate with highly aerated liquids from gas to liquid only flows. The inviscid bubble model of Hemp and Sultan (1989) has been extended to include the effects of bubble distribution and fluid viscosity. The predicted mass and density errors agree well with the air water data of Lui et al. (2001). Further experiments have been carried out at Cranfield with extended gas (air) and liquid (oil) flow velocities. The inviscid bubble theory agrees with this new data over a range of conditions. The viscous model explains some of the observations at low gas void fraction (GVF). The reasons for discrepancies at very low liquid velocities are given. (13 pages)
