The effects of phenobarbital combined with Xingnaojing on serum indexes, serum S-100β, and BDNF in children with convulsion

2019
Objective To investigate the effect of phenobarbital combined with Xingnaojing on serum indexes, serum S-100beta, and BDNF in children with convulsion. Methods A total of 80 children with convulsion in our hospital from March 2016 to March 2018 were selected as the subjects. They were divided into control group and study group according to the random number table method. The control group was treated with phenobarbital, and the study group was treated with phenobarbital combined with Xingnaojing. The therapeutic effect and the levels of S-100β, BDNF, IL-6, IL-8, and TNF-alpha in serum of the two groups were observed. Results The onset time, convulsion stopping time, and fever duration of the study group [(18.04±6.03) min, (22.34±3.95) min, (1.21±0.39) h] were less than those of the control group (P<0.05). After the intervention, the serum S-100 beta and BDNF levels of the study group [(0.18±0.06) ng/ml, (0.23±0.08) ng/ml] were lower than those of the control group (P<0.05); the levels of IgG, IgA, and IgM of the study group [(11.3±1.5) g/L, (1.2±0.4) g/L, (1.4±0.3) g/L] were significantly better than those of the control group (P<0.05); the serum levels of IL-6, IL-8, and TNF-alpha in the study group [(27.34±1.34) pg/ml, (30.34±1.77) pg/ml, (24.34±1.57) pg/ml] were lower than those in the control group (P<0.05). Conclusion Phenobarbital combined with Xingnaojing is effective in the treatment of children with convulsion, which is conducive to reducing the levels of S-100beta and BDNF, and is worthy of further clinical application.
