Infectious endocarditis caused by Cardiobacterium valvarum
2014
Introduction: Cardiobacterium valvarum is a new member of the HACEK group (Haemophilus, Aggregatibacter, Cardiobacterium and Eikenella) of Gram‐negative bacteria. Case presentation: We report a case of bicuspid aortic valve subacute bacterial endocarditis in a 36‐year‐old man presenting as an acute myocardial infarction, and review the clinical features of C. valvarum endocarditis. Conclusion: Although rare, C. valvarum endocarditis appears to affect adult men with bicuspid aortic valves, and may be characterized by a high propensity for profound valvular destruction and embolic phenomena, necessitating prompt surgical intervention.
