Imaging of Peristaltic Urine Transport in the Ureter Using 123Jodine Hippurate

1985
Clinical investigations of ureteral dynamic function are usually carried out by en- doluminal techniques e.g. pressure (Boyarsky and Labay 1972; Lapides 1948; Lutzeyer 1963) and flow (Melchior and Simhan 1971) measurements, or by radiographic methods e.g. videodensitometry (Tscholl et al. 1974; Weinberg and Labay 1977) and cineradiography (Durben etal. 1980). Ureteral catheterism carries the risk of infection and also obstructs the urine transport whereas radiographic procedures have the well known disadvantages of reaction to radiopaque (Shehadi 1975), diuretic effects and radiation charge. The aim of our investigation was to find a concept of ureteral dynamic examination which avoids the disadvantages mentioned but nevertheless gives as reliable information on ureteral function as the techniques used so far.
