Influence of partial substitution of V with Cr on phase constitution and heat treatment behaviour of Ti–Cr–V–Al alloys

2013
AbstractIf Ti–Cr–V–Al alloys were developed, scraps of Ti–13Cr–1Fe–3Al alloys developed as low cost Ti alloy, and commercial Ti–V system alloys in factories could be usefully recycled. With this motivation, the influence of partial substitution of V with Cr on the phase constitution and heat treatment behaviour of Ti–Cr–V–Al alloys was investigated by electrical resistivity measurements, Vickers hardness measurements, X-ray diffraction (XRD) and tensile testing. For all of the as quenched specimens, only the β phase was identified by XRD. In the as quenched state, resistivities at the two temperatures increased with Cr content except for the case of the 3Cr alloy, although the Vickers hardness was constant at ∼300 HV. Isothermal aging was found to produce the alpha phase without isothermal omega. All alloys showed elongation above ∼24%. The tensile strength increased from ∼750 to ∼900 MPa with increasing partial substitution of V with Cr.
