Waterborne anticorrosion coatings based on polyaniline

2020
Abstract The present review reports the latest development on the preparation of polyaniline (PANI) water-based protective coatings. The main disadvantage of PANI is its poor processability and solubility in water. The different approaches that have been used to overcome this drawback are discussed in the review. PANI can be used either alone as a primer coating or blended with other polymer. In particular, the recent design and development of PANI-based nanocomposites used as fillers of waterborne coatings will be described. As will be shown, waterborne PANI-based coatings have great potential for smart corrosion protection but there still remain certain issues that need to be addressed.
