Prevalence of antibodies to human immunodeficiency virus, hepatitis B, and hepatitis C in prisoners in Libya

2012
Prison inmates are reported to exhibit higher rates of disease morbidity, mortality, and health care utilization than the general population. The rates of infectious diseases such as hepatitis B virus (HBV), hepatitis C virus (HCV), and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) are reported to be particularly elevated in prison. This excess is largely attributed to the high concentration of inmates with a history of injection drug use.
